Mississippi
Welcome to Washington County, Mississippi. The blue in the patch represents the shape of the county with the four major incorporated cities indicated. What most people don’t realize is that Washington County has a unique history of first or well-known establishments. The Delta Blues Festival is held every September and is the longest continuously running blues festival in the world. Also, take note that the famous Blues Highway, Highway 61 runs through our Washington County. Every October people from all over look forward to the Hot Tamale Festival in Greenville. What most people don’t realize is that Jim Henson was born in Leland, MS where you can find the Jim Henson Delta Boyhood Exhibit. There’s the original location of Doe’s Eat Place known for their legendary steaks. Lastly, there is Stein Mart which was established in Greenville in 1980 and at its peak there were over 260 stores around the world. So, as you can see our Washington has a rich history.
I am a member of the Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers (MHV). Through MHV my sister (Janis Moore) started quilting class to not only teach quilting for beginners, but also to give seasoned quilters a place to gather and fellowship. This square was crafted by Iris McGee from Greenville, MS
