Missouri
Washington County, MO is known historically for lead and barium sulfate (aka tiff) mining. There is a strong influence of French in the old mines area. The pick and shovel and Missouri mule represent the mining history. Missouri is also known as the “show me” state.
The block was made by Mary Arnold Rill, member of Old Mines Historical Society. The society’s purpose is the preservation and promotion of the cultural and historical heritage of the early French of North America, with their primary focus on the Old Mine Areas of Missouri.
