Washingtons Unite

Oklahoma

Washington County, Oklahoma’s quilt square reflects key elements of the region’s heritage. The teepee represents the deep Native history of the area, including the Cherokee Nation and Osage Nation, who have longstanding ties to northeastern Oklahoma. The buffalo recalls a time when American bison roamed this landscape as part of the broader Great Plains ecosystem. The oil rig symbolizes the county’s pivotal role in the development of the American petroleum industry, as it sits atop productive formations within the Mid-Continent oil region.

The quilt square was sewn by Grace McWilliams.

Washington County, OK Board of Commissioners passed a Resolution recognizing the Washingtons Unite collaboration on March 16, 2026.
